Eveline Mueller-Graf & Annie Lewandowski

Percussionist Eveline Mueller-Graf was born in Uster, Switzerland, and grew up with good cheese and a piano in the house. In first grade she played the recorder; in sixth grade she wanted to become an opera singer. Years later she found herself behind the trap drums, though now she is mainly behind sawblades and airplane washers. Before moving to Seattle in 1989, Eveline played for several bands in Switzerland, ranging from New Wave to Country & Western. In the USA, Eveline's musical work and interests grew even wider. In addition to playing in different groups with musicians like Charley Rowan, Sue Ann Harkey, Amy Denio, Bill Horist, and Susie Kozawa, she also co-founded the outrageous Seattle Chainsaw Ensemble. She built her own percussion rack, the Boeing, so named because the majority of the parts used to be, or were meant to be, flying in the sky. With the Boeing, she was a longtime member of the free improvising group UnFolkUs. Eveline currently plays in the quartet Mothra with Jim Knodle, Cedric Ross, and Dennis Rea; in the SIL2K Ensemble; and in 3and2, a group with Eric Muhs, John Hawkley, and two ever-changing mystery guests. Her own project, Eveline's Klang Quintet, may include any or none of the aforementioned artists playing textural improvisations.

Accordionist and musical saw player Annie Lewandowski recently moved to Seattle after stints in the Twin Cities and London. She holds a degree in piano performance and pedagogy from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she was twice the winner of the Concerto/Aria Competition. Last year she spent several months in London getting an education in the improvised music scene with the help of Veryan Weston. There, she played with Caroline Kraabel, John Edwards, Sylvia Hallett, Jennifer Pike, and Paul Hubweber, among others.
